Types of Care for Mental Health and Substance Use
Lakeside has been providing hope and healing to people in Memphis and the surrounding communities for more than 50 years. Our longstanding reputation of excellence is built on care that prioritizes compassion, dignity and respect.
We offer mental and behavioral health services for adults and children of many acuity levels. We are here 24/7 to provide no-cost assessments and prompt admissions into the appropriate program.
Our levels of care include:
- Acute inpatient treatment
- Residential treatment
- Partial hospitalization
- Intensive outpatient treatment
Acute Inpatient Treatment
We provide emergency crisis stabilization for adults and children who are having suicidal thoughts, in a psychiatric crisis or need detoxification from drugs or alcohol. Patients receive 24-hour nursing supervision and medical care guided by a psychiatrist. Treatment includes medication and counseling from a licensed therapist.
Stabilization prepares patients to step down to a less intensive level of care. Learn more about inpatient treatment.
Residential Treatment Program
Residential rehabilitation is often the next step down from acute inpatient treatment. It’s a live-in program that provides a high level of structure and in-depth daily therapy. Residential treatment helps people develop coping skills and lays the groundwork for reintegration into their homes, schools and communities.
We offer residential treatment for adults and children. Learn more about residential treatment.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a full-day outpatient program. Patients attend daily group therapy sessions and return home each evening. Our PHP is less restrictive than inpatient treatment but provides more structure than traditional outpatient care. You may step down to PHP after inpatient treatment, or we may recommend PHP as an intervention to prevent a psychiatric or substance use crisis.

Intensive Outpatient Program
Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is the least restrictive level of care. Half-day treatment with flexible day and evening programming helps people continue their recovery while living their lives and attending to daily responsibilities.
Lakeside offers intensive outpatient treatment at our locations in Memphis and Jackson. Learn more about our intensive outpatient programs.
