Mental Health Care for Older Adults in West Tennessee

Aging can bring new challenges. Declining physical or mental capabilities, depression, loss of a partner or decreasing independence can lead to emotional distress. At Lakeside Behavioral Health System, we help people at this stage of life achieve greater peace of mind and well-being.

Senior Behavioral Health Services: Why Choose Us?

Our targeted inpatient program at Brunswick Place helps people cope with the mental and emotional challenges of aging. We take a compassionate approach to care, treating you or your loved one with the respect and dignity you deserve.

At Brunswick Place, you can find:

  • Facility designed for older adults: Our staff can provide care 24/7 to people with underlying medical issues, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Brunswick Place is equipped with safety rails, call lights, accessible showers and other safety features for residents. We are also trained to assist people with mobility challenges in completing activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Skilled mental health professionals: Staff consists of a psychiatrist, internal medicine physician, registered nurses, licensed therapists and other providers trained in the unique needs of older adults. We work closely with medical professionals already involved in the patient’s care to provide comprehensive, coordinated treatment.
  • Family-centered care: We involve family members in treatment decisions and encourage loved ones to visit. We also assist with discharge planning and can help coordinate the patient’s transition back home or into a nursing facility. Social workers connect you with resources for home care, support groups and other community services.

Our Mental Health Services for Seniors

At Brunswick Place, our specialized inpatient treatment helps older adults transition back to their daily lives with as much self-sufficiency as possible. We draw on a range of evidence-based therapies to help people achieve their goals and cope with the challenges of aging.

Our treatments for older adults include:

  • Psychiatric stabilization: We offer 24/7 hospitalization for people in an acute psychiatric crisis. During short-term stabilization, we focus on suicide prevention, medication therapy, detox (if necessary), and individual and group counseling. After stabilization, patients transition to our residential program at Brunswick Place.
  • Medication management: Medical staff carefully reviews each patient’s current medications. We monitor medications closely to prevent side effects and negative drug interactions. Patients with substance use issues may require medication to reduce cravings or manage withdrawal symptoms.
  • Group therapy: Daily group therapy sessions, led by a licensed therapist, build community and camaraderie among our residents. People share their challenges with the aging process and learn coping skills for continued growth and healing.
  • Physical and occupational therapy: We help patients with assistive devices (wheelchairs or walkers) and mobility challenges. Therapy staff is specially trained to assist patients with ADLs such as bathing, dressing, eating and using the bathroom. We also offer memory care for people with dementia or memory loss.
  • Recreational and expressive therapies: We encourage therapies that keep patients active, social and engaged. Music therapy, art therapy, chair and yoga exercises, pet therapy and relaxation activities are just a few of the holistic treatments we offer.
